The 70th National Film Awards are announced at the National Media Center in New Delhi on 16th August 2024 for the year 2022. The awards were announced by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B). These have been administrated by the Directorate of Film Festivals (since 1973). These awards are given out every year to recognise the nation’s top filmmakers.
Aim of the National Film Awards: Encouraging the production of films of aesthetic and technical excellence and social relevance.

History of the National Film Awards-
The National Film Awards were established in 1954 for the films of the year 1953. Initially, they recognised only the best films in different regional languages.
The awards were initially called ‘State Awards’. In 1967, they began presenting awards to actors and technicians who were involved in making films.
