Recently, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya introduced the ‘MedTech Mitra’ portal in a virtual ceremony.
The portal will be run jointly by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Central Drugs Standards Control Organisation (CDSCO), following the guidance of NITI Aayog’s Atal Innovation Mission.

Aims of MedTech Mitra Platform-
MedTech Mitra, a pioneering platform will nurture young innovators in medical technology. This initiative will offer extensive support, helping innovators, refine research knowledge and facilitating regulatory approvals for their healthcare solutions.
It will help create cheaper, top-notch MedTech devices and tests within the country, aiming to reduce the current 80% dependence on imported MedTech devices.

Future Aspirations-
Dr Mandaviya expressed optimism about India’s MedTech sector, forecasting its growth to a $50 billion industry by 2030. He highlighted the swift evolution driven by advancements in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Virtual Reality and Nano Technology. Stressing the importance of proactive approval support, he aims to lead India towards self-reliance and the goal of a Viksit Bharat.
